An intimate virtual response to social distancing in the era of Covid-19
Video Roundtable: How can we support Youth + Media in a Pandemic? As a teaching artist, I've been directly impacted by program and school closures due to COVID-19. As the Senior Producer for the Alliance Youth Media Network, I know that I'm not alone in my struggles and that there is a bigger network of practitioners that can help figure out how we support youth in continuing to make art and media. So I'm convening a rapid response Video Roundtable with youth media practitioners on Monday, March 16 at 11am PT / 12pm MT / 1pm CT / 2pm ET.

Virtual Studio TourI'm a social practice artist, which I define as using what ever tools + materials + resources + practices are available to me to create contextually-driven work. Often, my work convenes people across ages, identities, geographies, and expressions to co-create an experience of deep inquiry. And I do this both off and online.
I've learned quite a bit from my social practice about how to hold meaningful space in the virtual world. Join me on a virtual studio tour as I dive into some of my current art projects (especially my arts integration class at Aptos Middle School with the San Francisco Opera) and discuss how they manifest on- and off-line. Artist Happy HourMix yourself a drink. Heat up some pizza rolls. Put on your bathrobe. And join me for a hella casual Artist Happy Hour. We'll start by gabbing a bit and then we slowly move into sharing some art. Bring something to share or just come to listen and ask questions. This is just like your favorite bar or art opening only you get to wear your snuggie and sip wine from Big Gulp.
Since it's the end of the world, why not unwind, share work, and meet new folx? Want to join: email me at queerlycomplex@gmail.com. |
VIDEO ROUNDTABLE: ONLINE / DIGITAL PRAXISOver the last four years, I've developed a pedagogy of online facilitation for intergenerational co-creation through my work at The Alliance for Media Arts + Culture. On this Video Roundtable, I'll share some of the tips + tricks that transform my pedagogy into praxis, including holding space for others on the call to share what works and doesn't work in online trainings, convenings, collaborations, and projects. Together, we'll name emerging practices that are crucial to build virtual communities in an era of social distancing.

IN my kitchen: Recipes, tips, StoriesI cook a lot, and I've spent countless hours learning how to make homemade curries, flaky biscuits, the perfect spaghetti sauce. Over it all, I've developed some ways of thinking about meals so that leftovers from Monday night become a brand new meal on Tuesday night.
Join me as I take you on a tour of my kitchen and share some of the staples that fill my cabinets. I'll also share one of my favorite pickled dishes: ginger-pickled carrots! There'll be stories, maybe some grated fingertips, and lots of laughter. Want to join: email me at queerlycomplex@gmail.com. |
